These video essays by Tim Cone, mostly about contemporary art exhibitions, attempt to preserve fleeting thoughts about fleeting art exhibitions, or to reflect on the possible meaning of a passing moment.

Robert Smithson’s Spiral Jetty and Floating Island

Here’s my video on two works by Robert Smithson, his Spiral Jetty (1970) and Floating Island to Travel Around Manhattan Island (1970 -2005).

    Yeah Verdi!

For me this interpretation also calls to mind the simple power of bringing a piece of Central Park out where it has to be noticed. The Central Park “courtyard,” like the natural environment around us, is too easy to not see– placing it on a barge and doing something ludicrous with a “piece of park/nature” forces us to notice and think.

  2. Tim: I enjoyed your thoughts on both of these works, very insightful. Much like your parrot, I too can survive on Cheetos !

  3. Tim, I enjoyed your video about the floating island. Your writing is deep and insightful. The first part is just a bit repetitive, visually. Perhaps you could cut away to images of Smithson himself. All In all an intriguing piece. I have a video on you tube called Dylan’s footprint you might enjoy checking out,
    Good luck with future videos.

    Ahoy, Tim:

Are you going to do a video about the Bubble in the Hirshhorn! did you see C1 in the Times this morning (12/16/09)?

I don’t know whether I’ll do a a video about the Bubble at the Hirshhorn. I guess we’ll have to see what it looks like, and whether others think it’s worth it.

Tim: I cheer this lastest effort and giggled at the cameo appearance of Verdi! I’d never heard of either work of art and, as before, am grateful for you to put pictures together and thoughtfully connect with words.
